2012 Honda City

Honda City to undergo mid-life facelift, diesel variant still a long time away.
The Honda City has been around for three years now and while it has successfully remained the king of the executive sedan throne, its supremacy has not been daunted by the likes of the Volkswagen Vento and the new Hyundai Verna – especially by their diesel variants. In fact, in its combined sales, the Volkswagen Vento overtook the City’s sales last month and looks like it will only worsen for the Japanese carmaker, thanks to the rising fuel prices.
While Honda has already confirmed that they indeed need a diesel but the oil burner for the City is atleast two years away, the Japanese carmaker will still go ahead give the City its mid-life makeover to tackle the new competitors. The City’s design is already in line with Honda’s current design language – so much that the upcoming Civic actually looks like a bloated Civic. So don’t expect any outrageous changes.
The City facelift will instead have subtle tweaks to its design to make it look sportier than the current model. We expect the trademark new honeycomb-mesh grille with the single chrome slat to make it as standard fitment on the new 2012 Honda City. Expect the headlights to get minor design tweaks while the taillights could get an LED treatment.  The interiors should get minor tweaks too, with new upholstery options, redesigned console or dashboard elements, added features etc.

There is a fair chance that the new 2012 Honda City facelift could take a lot of design cues from the Honda City Concept that was shown in Australia back in 2008. The 2012 Honda City facelift is expected to make its debut in Thailand in September 2011. Expect the new facelift Honda City to India by Diwali 2011 or at least by January at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi.
